Greening of Guilford
The Guilford Garden Club is dedicated to planting and nurturing the tree canopy in our town through this program. We raise the money for purchase of trees and to cover planting labor. We work closely with the Town of Guilford's Tree Warden in choosing types of trees and their location. We have planted over 100 new trees in the southern portion of the town during the program's first 15 years. This program is partially supported by the Guilford Foundation.
Previous projects include the 350th Anniversary, when Guilford Garden Club gave tree seedlings to every elementary school child, and the Route 1 Project, when the Garden Club planted trees along Boston Post Rd. Altogether, the Garden Club has planted well over 1000 trees in Guilford!
The Guilford Garden Club and The Guilford Foundation funded the planting of four Celestial Dogwoods and two Brilliance Shadblow trees on South Fair St and one Celestial Dogwood on High St in the Fall of 2025.
NOTE: The average cost of purchase, planting, and care of an individual tree is $500, though any amount is appreciated and will be acknowledged. (Individual contributions in a recipient’s name under this amount will be combined toward a memorial tree.) Plaques are not allowed to be placed on trees.
If you would like to honor someone or contribute In Memory Of, please include that person's name as well as the name of the person to whom we should acknowledge your gift.
